This is what Jacques Brel would have sounded like if he had been a David Bowie fan instead of the other way around! You've arrived at the home of Nick Troop, aka CatDesigners CatDesigners' songs are complex, imaginal and psychological. Like the soundtrack to a London urban-western that has never been filmed they wear their musical legacy on their sleeves (in a post-vinyl world maybe that should be inserts rather than sleeves) ranging from futuristic 60s, pre-apocolyptic glam, sky-gazing indie, avante garde pop and anti-rock rock. Under the cloak of CatDesigners, I've recorded three solo albums (there they are ... over there on the right). The first was Chemical Jazz, a mixture of full versus minimalist arrangements and beautiful versus dirty little rock songs. The second was Strange Little Creature, a selection of curios and ambiguous figures. The third (and current album) is Tomorrow Never Knows, a 40th anniversary tribute to The Beatles' Revolver album. That's right, not an album of Beatles covers but a cover of an entire Beatles album. Click here to BUY them or, if you prefer, you can buy the albums at CDBaby. If you want to see some of the ingredients that go into making the CatDesigners sound visit this Amazon link. Between Strange Little Creature and Tomorrow Never Knows I joined forces with Steve Heath (smiley bass) and Fred Binding (famous Cuban fag) to show up as CatDesigners for live performances. Since 2005 I've been performing solo acoustic shows under my own name and in 2006 I went back into the studio to record the third CatDesigners album, Tomorrow Never Knows. However, 2007 was a year of births, deaths and marriages (and a lot of building work) and so was a write-off from a musical point of view. But I've re-emerged enthused and have started performing again ... apparently in my live shows I'm somewhere between Jacques Brel and an acoustic Syd Barrett (check out the GIG section for updates). I've also been working on a new website called The Gospel According to David Bowie.com which is a psycho-lyrical analysis of Bowie's oeuvre. If you already have my CatDesigners CDs you can review the albums on CDBaby or Email me and I'll post them in the Reviews section. You can also Email reviews of my gigs. And, hey, if you'd like to get access to a whole bunch of extra features (like special downloads, lyrics, forum, goodies and competitions) all you need to do is register as a Member. So whadyathink? Email and tell me. Luv on ya Nick |
